RECENT RESEARCH HAS DISCOVERED THAT PRIVATE PATRICK DONOHOE VC DIED IN DUBLIN IN 1876 AND WAS BURIED IN GLASNEVIN CEMETERY. |

It was always thought that Patrick Donohoe VC had died in Ashbourne, Co Meath, and was buried in an unmarked grave in St Patrick's RC Churchyard, Donaghmore Co Meath. It would appear this is incorrect. Recent research, carried out by Stephen Callaghan, has discovered that Patrick Donohoe in fact died at 81 Bride Street, Dublin on the 16th August 1876 ( as shown on his death certificate ), and was buried in the family grave in Glasnevin Cemetery, Dublin. The marker headstone over the Donohoe family grave is of a rather impressive construction. ( see below ) |

For the award of the Victoria Cross [ London Gazette, 24 December 1858 ], Bolundshadur, Indian Mutiny, 28 September 1857, Private Patrick Donohoe, 9th ( Queen's Royal ) Lancers.
For having, at Bolundshadur, on the 28th of September 1857, gone to the support of Lieutenant Blair, who had been severely wounded, and, with a few other men, brought that officer in safety through a large body of the enemy’s cavalry. Patrick Donohoe was invested with his Victoria Cross by Queen Victoria at Windsor Castle on the 4th January 1860. |
